The Chevrolet Volt concept was awarded the 2007 North American Specialty Concept Vehicle of the Year and the Most Significant Concept Vehicle of the Year at an awards ceremony at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn. The Holden EFIJY won the 2007 North American Concept Car of the Year Award.

Organized by the South East Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO), the sixth annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards recognize those vehicles most likely to shape the future of the automobile industry. Bob Boniface, Director, GM Advanced Design, and Chevrolet Volt Lead Designer, accepted the awards on behalf of GM.

World’s first ever ‘Scratch Car-d’

Thousands of people lined up, grabbed a penny and rubbed away on the world’s first ‘Scratch Car-d’ today. The unique SUV took two months to prepare and was completely covered in silver latex, the material found on lottery scratch cards, which took 14 hours to scratch off. Underneath were thousands of individual panels, with one revealing a symbol to win the vehicle.

The ‘Scratch Car-d’ was unveiled in London’s Covent Garden on a bed of 16,995 pennies to mark the launch of the new Chevrolet Captiva, the company’s first SUV for the UK market.

Chevy Sequel Drives Into History Books

General Motors Corp. made history today as its Chevy Sequel – the world’s most technologically advanced automobile – became the first electrically-driven fuel cell vehicle to achieve 300 miles on one tank of hydrogen, in and out of traffic on public roads, while producing zero emissions.

“With this drive, General Motors has reached another important milestone toward the commercialization of our fuel cell vehicles, by achieving the range expected by today’s consumers,” said Larry Burns, GM vice president, research & development and strategic planning. ”And we did it while producing zero emissions, as a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle only emits water. In addition, the hydrogen produced at Niagara Falls , used to fuel Sequel, was derived from hydropower – a clean, renewable resource. This means that the entire process – from the creation of the hydrogen to the use of the fuel in the vehicle — was virtually carbon dioxide (CO2) free.”

Chevrolet HHR Panel Puts the Petal to the Metal in N.Y.

What better way to illustrate the uses for the new Chevrolet HHR Panel than with the vehicles themselves? Chevy is doing exactly that at the New York Auto Show with two eye-popping wraps – one for business, the other for pleasure. A delivery vehicle that looks like a bouquet on wheels shows how the HHR Panel can deliver the goods without draining the gas tank. A personal-use Panel, “Skull From Hell,” was designed by student Jim McCammon of Detroit ’s Center for Creative Studies. The show opens to the public on Friday. HHR Panel will be offered in LS and LT trims, with 2.2L and 2.4L engines – both of which help deliver 30 mpg in highway driving.
