Dieter Zetsche confirms talks with potential partners regarding the Chrysler Group

Dr. Dieter Zetsche, the Chairman of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG, has confirmed for the first time that discussions have taken place with interested parties regarding future options for the Chrysler Group. “In this context, I can confirm that we are talking with some of the potential partners who have shown a clear interest”, Zetsche is quoted as saying in the text of the speech he will deliver at the Annual Meeting 2007 in Berlin today. However, Zetsche continued, “But it is also true that we need to keep all options open, and that I cannot disclose any details, because we need to have the maximum scope for maneuver.” The company’s management requires “the greatest possible flexibility so that we can identify and then professionally implement the best possible solution.”

Chinese carmakers rule out interest in Chrysler

Chinese car companies have played down speculation that one of them is interested in acquiring Chrysler, the struggling US-based division of DaimlerChrysler. While, some of China’s vehicle manufacturers have previously indicated they want to be global players - such as Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, Nanjing Automotive, First Automotive Works and Chery Automotive - representatives of SAIC, FAW and Chery say they have no interest in Chrysler.

Chrysler will offer union workers up to $100K to leave

Chrysler Group and the UAW today agreed to two special programs that will provide retirement and separation incentives for the Company’s bargaining-unit employees in the United States as part of the Chrysler Group’s Recovery and Transformation Plan. The negotiated programs include an Incentive Program for Retirement (IPR) with $70,000 cash lump-sum amount for employees with 30 or more years of credited service, or who meet a combination of age and years-of-service eligibility, and an Enhanced Voluntary Termination of Employment Program (VTEP), which provides a lump sum payment of $100,000 for employees with at least one year of credited service. A letter outlining the plans was sent to affected employees Feb. 27.
